CN Railroad Security Guard Fatally Shot Saturday Identified

Police are still searching for the suspect, who is considered armed and dangerous.

HARVEY, IL — A security guard for Canadian National Railway who was fatally shot Saturday night has been identified.

Tyrone Hardin, 38, was shot around 7 p.m. by a man police say also stole two cars—including the guard's.

Prior to the shooting, the man is believed to have stolen a Harvey woman's car, crashing it shortly afterward. He fled up onto train tracks, where he encountered Hardin. The suspect fired at least 12 shots, one of which struck Hardin in the stomach. He then reportedly stole Hardin's car, later abandoning it in the 100 block of 171st Street.

The victim was taken in critical condition to South Suburban Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

"Multiple police agencies continue to investigate the shooting death of a security officer who was tragically killed Saturday evening while on duty at the CN railroad yard in Harvey," said Patrick Waldron, a spokesman with CN. "The guard worked with a private security firm that assists CN police. We would like to express our sincere condolences on this tragic loss to the guard's family, friends and co-workers.

"CN continues to work with local law enforcement agencies on this ongoing investigation."

The suspect was last seen wearing a black sweatshirt and blue jeans, ABC7 reports. Harvey police and multiple other agencies are searching for the suspect, who is considered to be armed and dangerous.
