Family Wins Car To Help Young Girl With Disability

The Christmas wish for the Maszak family in Homewood was granted, thanks to Homewood Chevrolet and their annual free car giveaway.

HOMEWOOD, IL - For the first time in the history of the Christmas Eve free car giveaway at Homewood Chevrolet, the recipients are residents of Homewood. The inspirational story of the Maszak family became well-known over the holiday season this year as they were gifted a brand new 2019 Chevrolet Sonic to help a young family member with special needs.

After receiving hundreds of nominations for the annual giveaway, the team at Homewood Chevrolet selected to gift the car to Robert and Sandra Maszak, a local couple in their 70's who take care of their disabled great-granddaughter, Tori Maszak.

Tori was born prematurely and diagnosed with cerebral palsy. Last year at the age of six she lost her cognitive thinking and reasoning and diagnosed with Childhood Disintegration Disorder, according to a Homewood Chevrolet spokeswoman.

The Maszaks entered the contest by writing an essay from Tori's perspective. Read it here.

After the family was selected as one of four finalists, they produced a video stating why they should win the car. In the video, Robert Maszak explained how difficult it became to get Tori into the backseat of the family's old car, a 2003 Chevrolet purchased at the Homewood dealership years ago.
