Hazel Crest Accepting Applications For Police Officer

Mayor Vernard Alsberry Encouraging Young People To Consider Career In Law Enforcement

Hazel Crest Village President Vernard Alsberry Jr. is encouraging all men and women interested in a career in law enforcement to apply for the position of Hazel Crest Police Officer by the August 8th deadline.

The Hazel Crest Fire and Police Commission will be accepting applications for the position of Police Officer to join the 35 current sworn officers who work to keep village residents and businesses safe. The starting salary for an entry level police officer is $55,273 in addition to available health insurance and pension benefits.

The application packet can be picked up at the Hazel Crest Police Department located at 3000 W. 170th Place in Hazel Crest, Illinois. Out of area applicants may call 708-335-9640 to obtain an application. Applications packets must be received by Monday, August 8, 2018.

The minimum requirements to be a police officer are:

  • Must be a United States citizen
  • Must speak, read and write the English language fluently
  • Must be at least 21 years of age (at time sworn in)
  • Must be no older than 35 years of age (except for statutory exceptions)
  • Must be high school graduate or equivalent (including GED certificate)
  • Must have 30 credit hours from an accredited college or university
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license
  • Must have 20/70 binocular vision correctable to 20/20 and not be color blind
  • Must have no felony convictions
  • Must have no misdemeanor criminal convictions as specified in 65 ILCS 5-1-7 of the Illinois Revised Statutes
  • Must be able to fully disclose all personnel matters including any agreements and any sealed files
  • Must be able to comply with contractually agreed upon residency requirements
  • Must have high moral standards and displays personal integrity and habits based upon the Village’s values and standards
