Spring time is here and with it comes the start of baseball season. Local children are getting ready to lace up their cleats, strap on their batting gloves and step up to the plate at local fields across the area. On Saturday, April 20, the Homewood Baseball and Softball will kick off its season with its annual parade and opening day ceremonies, along with a full slate of games.

The parade steps off at 11 a.m. and will begin at Richard D. Irwin Park, before heading down  Ridge Road to the Izaak Walton Baseball Fields. The parade will force the closure of Ridge Road from Gottschalk Avenue and Highland Avenue, beginning at 10 a.m. and lasting until after the parade.

The parade is expected to bring out more than 700 players to participate, along with several hundred family members and friends.
