Homewood-Flossmoor 2021 Election: Village, Schools, Township
Homewood and Flossmoor voters will head to the polls April 6, choosing members for village board of trustees and local school boards.

HOMEWOOD-FLOSSMOOR, IL — The Consolidated Elections are finally here. After months of preparation and campaigning, candidates and residents will soon know who the people of Homewood and Flossmoor have elected for school boards, village board, township boards and more.
The polls in Suburban Cook County open at 6 a.m. Tuesday and will remain so until 7 p.m. Election officials say that if you're in line by 7, you will be able to vote no matter how long the line is.
Homewood and Flossmoor voters will weigh in on a number of contested races in this election. Here is a break-down on what to know this Election Day.

Village Board Races
Homewood Mayor Richard A. Hofeld is seeking re-election uncontested.
In Flossmoor, the mayor's seat is up for grabs, as current Village President Paul Braun will not be in the running in April. For mayor, Michelle Nelson and Lakshmi Emory are both vying for votes to claim the title. Learn more about the two women candidates below.

Homewood's trustee race is also uncontested. For trustee in Flossmoor, the following names will appear on the ballot:
- Joni Bradley-Scott — Incumbent
- Brian Driscoll — Incumbent
- Gary Daggett — Candidate
- David Walano — Candidate
George Lofton is seeking to be elected for a two-year unexpired term as trustee. Lofton's appointment fills a vacancy following the resignation of former Trustee Gyata Kimmons. A board vacancy is filled by a mayoral appointment pending an affirmative vote by the Board of Trustees.
School Boards
In Homewood-Flossmoor School District 233, Cynthia W. Turnquest, Jimo JK Kasali, Lakesha Spight, Annette Ripani Bannon, Beth A. Larocca, Steven R. Anderson and Michelle Hoereth are in the running. Only three will be elected.
In Homewood School District 153, Deborah Smith Havighorst, Broderick L. Booth and Shelly F. Marks are running.
In Flossmoor District 161, Aracelis Janelle Scharon, Carolyn Griggs and Misha Blackman are on the ballot.
Park Board
The Homewood-Flossmoor Park District has one opening on the Board of Commissioners. This year, current commissioner and Vice President Debbie Dennison was the only person to file. Dennison is running unopposed.
Park Boards are responsible for creating and enabling policies. Commissioners are responsible for passing ordinances and resolutions, similar to village and city board members. The board also is responsible for adopting budgets, appointing committees and more.
Library Board
All candidates are running unopposed in the Flossmoor Library Board race. Here is who's running for library board in Flossmoor:
Library Trustee – Three Positions

Library Trustee – 2 Year Unexpired Term (Two positions)
- Leilani Shute
- Clarissa Watts
In Homewood, the library race is uncontested as well.

Townships
The Bremen Township races are all uncontested this year. The names appearing on the ballot include:
- Kathryn Straniero for Supervisor
- John D. Lord for Clerk
- Willie A. Jones for Assessor
- John P. Flaherty for Highway Commissioner
- Carolyn R. Carter for Trustee
- Mary Catuara for Trustee
- Edward P. Maggio for Trustee
- John M. (Mike) Tatro for Trustee
Rich Township
For Supervisor, three candidates will appear on the ballot.
- Eric M. Wallace
- Calvin Jordan
- Al Riley
For Clerk, two names will appear on the ballot:
- Arlene M. 'Sugar' Al-Amin
- Audrey Brunson
For Assessor, Sam A. Brown is running uncontested. The Highway Commissioner race has three candidates including Jack J. McInerney, Jr., Dennis A. White and Arthur Byrd, Jr.
The Trustee race has 10 candidates vying for the four open slots. These candidates include:

- Nicholas P. Bobis

- Therese H. Goodrich

- John T. Laliotes

Thornton Township
The Thornton Township race is entirely uncontested.

Bloom Township
For the Bloom Township race, many candidates are on the ballot.

Register To Vote
On Election Day, voters who are not registered to vote can register and vote at their home precinct only. Find your home precinct using the voter information tool. Voters planning on registering to vote or updating their address on Election Day must bring two pieces of identification to register, one with a current address.
