Homewood Girl Scout Troop Mural Adds Splash of Color to Metra Station Tunnel
The 14 Girl Scout Troops in Homewood recently presented a mural project to Homewood village officials depicting the theme, 'Homewood is...' The mural project was then painted on the Homewood Metra pedestrian tunnel.
Metra riders in Homewood, and those traveling to the village, might have noticed a new art installation in place along the walls of the Homewood Metra Station pedestrian tunnel in recent weeks. The mural, which is the work of the 14 Girl Scout troops from Homewood, features a mural from each troop that focuses on the theme, 'Homewood is...'
Each of the troops work with local artists and parents who volunteered to help the troops take their ideas on what 'Homewood is...' and put paint, markers, crayons and more, to paper. Once the troops were done, they presented the works of art to a group of Homewood elected officials.
The works were then painted on the walls of the Metra station pedestrian tunnel on April 27.

"On April 27 they went into the tunnel and they painted the tunnels," said Rachel Jones, Homewood's Public Relations Manager. "The murals are actually still drying."
Once the paints are dry, a final coat of sealer will be put on to ensure the new mural lasts for future commuters and visitors to enjoy, Jones said.

"They look beautiful. ... It's a nice welcome to Homewood," Jones said. "It's also great for those people who come to town to see the Richard Haas Murals or to shop or dine, to see the community involvement. That's displayed in these 14 murals."
