HOMEWOOD, IL — Players with Homewood's newest Little League got a taste of the bigger leagues Monday after the young hitters got a chance to meet the star Homewood-Flossmoor Vikings team.

Varsity baseball coach John McCarthy invited the Homewood Heights Hitmen travel baseball teams to their home game. The Hitmen's founder, Brian Andreatta, threw out the ceremonial first pitch. And during the announcement of starting lineups, the Vikings players ran to the field with the young Hitmen players joining them.

"This was an opportunity for the kids to connect with talented student athletes right here in our community," said spokesman Jhames Holley in a statement. "They were able to study the game as spectators with Hitmen coaches making sure they noticed the decision making and sportsmanship at the high school level. Certainly, the 10-12 year olds visualized themselves playing as HF Vikings in their future."
