Homewood Inches Closer To Changing Water Suppliers
Homewood trustees are set to vote to hire an engineer in a move that brings it closer to switching water providers to Chicago Heights.
HOMEWOOD, IL — Homewood trustees are moving forward with plans to change water suppliers to the City of Chicago Heights as the board considers hiring an engineer Tuesday night for design services.
Trustees will decide whether to spend $813,100 to hire Burns & McDonnell of Missouri for a design-build project that will permit the village to switch water suppliers.
In July, village officials said they would cut ties with its current supplier, the City of Harvey, because it was proposing a rate hike to cover its own debt for water service from Chicago.

To make the switch, Homewood will first need to build a pipeline to connect to the Chicago Heights system. That is estimated to cost as much as $8 million and will take three years to build, officials said.
The village board meeting will be held Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the village hall at 2020 Chestnut Street.
