Homewood's Giant Block Party Set for August 15

Homewood's annual summer bash kicks off Saturday, August 15 at 10 a.m.

The Village of Homewood is throwing a Block Party on Saturday, August 15 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. The event is on Hickory Road between Dixie Highway and Martin Avenue. Like a neighborhood block party, fest goers will enjoy the same fun activities, face painting, a full line-up of live music for all ages, bean bag tournament, summer fare from Homewood restaurants and the annual Pooch Parade. Homewood’s Giant Block Party is free and open to the public.

“It may be the ‘Dog Days’, but Homewood knows how to celebrate both summer and fun,” said Mayor Rich Hofeld. “Summer is the perfect season to connect with your community at the peak of beauty in Homewood. And who doesn’t like a good dog parade! I’m hoping my pup Annie wins ‘Best Trick’ for hijacking the Homewood twitter account as an April Fool’s joke.”

Homewood’s Block Party starts off on the right paw with the dog contest and parade; check in is at 10 a.m. A panel of judges from the community will oversee the dog contest and award the three prizes: Best Trick, Most Humorous Costume and Best in Parade. The Pooch Parade steps off at 11 a.m. where spectators can view the whole barkin’ thing. In addition, the South Suburban Humane Society is sponsoring the third annual Pup Crawl. Interested humans and their canine friends will make the rounds at the local watering holes for drinks, trivia and raffles.
