Indiana Man Fired Gun At Gas Station, Wounding 1: Cops

Homewood police said a 20-year-old Indiana man shot from a car window, hitting a man at Speedway.

HOMEWOOD, IL — An Indiana man is accused of firing a gun out a car window, hitting a 52-year-old man who was fueling his car at gas station in Homewood. Dontae Clark, 20, was charged with attempted murder in the July incident. He is currently being held without bail at Cook County Jail.

Around 8:50 p.m., July 18, Homewood police responded to reports of shots fired at Speedway, 18002 S. Halsted St. Officers said the gunfire came from a white vehicle, hitting the 52-year-old man in the fueling area. The injured man was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was treated for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound, police said.

The white vehicle left the area, heading south on Halsted Street. Another vehicle that was parked at the Chevrolet of Homewood across the street was also damaged.

Homewood police obtained a no-bond arrest warrant on Aug. 26. Police did say how they came to identify Clark as a possible suspect. Clark was taken into custody Aug. 31 in his hometown of Indianapolis. Police said signed a waiver of extradition. He was subsequently brought back to Homewood on Sept. 3.

Clark appeared for a hearing for a bond hearing Sept. 5 at the Leighton Criminal Court Building, 2600 S. California. He was denied bail. Clark is due back in court Sept. 25 in Markham.
