Metra Suspends Service On Electric District Line

Trains on the Metra Electric District line won't run through the end of Thursday.

CHICAGO – The extremely cold weather has caused the suspension of service on the Metra Electric Line, which services much of the city's South Side and southeast suburbs. The suspension will last through the end of Thursday.

PACE buses will be available downtown near the Millennium Station's entrance at 4 p.m. to give commuters rides back to their suburban train stations, according to Metra.

One bus that leaves at 4:30 p.m. will make stops at the Kensington, Riverdale, Ivanhoe, 147th Street, Harvey, Hazel Crest, Calumet and Homewood stations. A second bus, also departing at 4:30 p.m., will make stops at Flossmoor, Olympia Fields, 211th Street, Matteson, Richton Park and University Park. A manager will be on board each of the buses to assist passengers.

Riders could also use the Rock Island Line as an alternative and the CTA will honor Metra tickets on its bus routes 71, 26, 28, 6, J14, 2 and 1.

The Electric District line is expected to be back in service in time for the Friday morning rush hour.
