Sterling Mark Nortman

Age 71, of Plainfield, passed away on Wednesday, April 15, 2020, at his home. He was born July 6, 1948, in Boston, MA, the son of the late Herman and Rose (nee Goldman) Nortman.

Sterling relocated to Chicago after meeting and marrying his wife, Grace, in 1969. He dedicated his life to a career in law enforcement, serving as Sergeant with the Cook County Sheriff’s Police Department for many years. Sterling was also a founding member, Secretary, and Treasurer of the Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge #4, and a member of H.O.G. He proudly served his country in the US Coast Guard during the Vietnam War and continued his service in the Reserves until after Operation Desert Storm.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Grace M. (nee Fiore) Nortman of Plainfield; children, Tom Nortman of Homewood, Lisa (Bob) Lopez of Crown Point, IN, and Cheryl (Bryan) Greenspan of St. Charles; grandchildren, Tori, Tara, David, Bryan, Christopher, Michele, Jake, and Nicholas; many good friends and neighbors also survive.

Preceded in death by his parents; sister, Valerie; and his loving and caring in-laws, Thomas and Grace Fiore.

Funeral Services and interment at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Evergreen Park, IL, were held with family as a consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic. Funeral Arrangements are under the care and coordination of the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name to the Gary Sinise Foundation, PO Box 368, Woodland Hills, CA 91365, would be appreciated.
