Paraplegic Accused Of Shooting Fellow Nursing Home Resident

A paralyzed nursing home resident shot and killed another resident in Homewood on Saturday morning, police said.

HOMEWOOD, IL — A paraplegic nursing home resident is charged in the shooting death of another resident over the weekend. Maurice McMullen, 32, was arrested Sunday and charged with homicide in the death of 77-year-old William H. Foster.

Foster was killed in the early hours of Saturday morning at the South Suburban Rehabilitation Center, according to the Homewood Police Department. Police responded to a report shots fired at the facility in the 19000 block of Halsted Street.

The Cook County Medical Examiners Office said Foster suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

McMullen, who is paralyzed from the waist down due to a 2014 shooting, was denied bond and is due back in court Aug. 27, according to jail records.

Patch reached out to South Suburban Rehabilitation Center but had not received a response as of early Tuesday afternoon.
