Parker Junior High Students Place In Top 10 Of National Contest
The students each designed a flag that shows their perception of America, for the national Kidizenship Fly Your Flag contest.

FLOSSMOOR, IL — Three students at Parker Junior High School, 2810 School St., Flossmoor, have placed in the top ten of Kidzenship's Fly Your Flag contest. The national contest was judged in two age categories, 8-12 and 13-18.
According to its website, Kidzenship is a non-partisan, non-profit media platform for tweens and teens that reaches beyond the classroom, merging civics education with creative self-expression and community action.
The organization said the purpose of this contest was to design a flag that shows the student's view of America. Students had the ability to celebrate the national symbol, or challenge it. The top three flags selected by the organization win: $1000 for 1st place, $750 for 2nd place and $500 for 3rd place, according to the organization.

Although they did not place in the top three— Cesar Evans, Mia Caporale and Ruby Mikulski each made a flag that represents their America, placing in the top ten nation-wide contest. The top ten designs can be seen below.

Flossmoor School District 161 shared the news on its website, congratulating the students.
"A huge congratulation to PJH Falcons Cesar Evans, Mia Caporale and Ruby Mikulski! These wonderful 7th graders were selected to the top 10 students in the country for the Kidizenship Fly Your Flag contest! Participants were invited to create flags that celebrate the national symbol or challenge it and use their creativity to speak about what the flag represents to them," the district wrote.
Amabel Crawford, Principal of Parker Junior High, shared the flags on the school website, congratulating the students for their accomplishment.
"Their designs and descriptions are truly inspiring!" Crawford wrote. "Thank you to Ms. McKenna, Ms. O'Dwyer, and parents for supporting our students with this incredible accomplishment! Check out the designs and descriptions!"
