Residents Invited To Pay Tribute To Firefighter Dylan Cunningham

SOUTH HOLLAND, IL — South Holland firefighter Dylan Cunningham will be laid to rest Wednesday, and the public is invited to stand along a procession route to pay their respects to the fallen hero. A funeral service for Cunningham, 29, will be livestreamed on Facebook from Smits Funeral Home in Dyer, Indiana. The service starts at 11 a.m.

Following the service, a procession will transport Cunningham from the funeral home to the South Holland Fire Department, then to St. John Church in Glenwood for a service that is open to the Cunningham family only.

Members of the public are invited and encouraged to stand along the procession route to honor Cunningham. See route below:

"We are expecting a large number of vehicles along this route,” said Julia Perla Huisman of the Village of South Holland. "So we are asking motorists to be prepared to seek alternate routes for travel during this time."

Cunningham of Thornton, died Sept. 30 following an underwater dive incident at Haigh Quarry. He is survived by his parents, siblings and fiancée.
