New Speed Display Signs In Flossmoor Funded By ComEd Grant

Portable speed display signs will allow the village to gather traffic data on Flossmoor Road and Western Avenue.

FLOSSMOOR, IL — Motorists in Flossmoor may have noticed two new speed display signs after a ComEd grant helped fund their purchase. It was announced earlier this month that the Flossmoor Police Department was one of several state-wide recipients of a ComEd grant through the utility provider's Powering Safe Communities Program. The grant funded two portable, programmable and energy-efficient speed display signs that were to be used at separate locations in the village, according to a news release from ComEd.

The signs allow the village to set sign configurations, schedule operating modes, and gather traffic data for analysis, with a goal to increase motorists' awareness of their traveling speed in school zones and achieve better adherence to speed limits on residential streets.

Flossmoor Deputy Police Chief Tod Kamleiter said the signs are portable and already up on Flossmoor Road and Western Avenue.
