Stay Clear Of This Viaduct During The Snowstorm: Public Works
The viaduct at Flossmoor Road and Sterling Avenue and other areas in the village are prone to flooding.

FLOSSMOOR, IL — The first big snowstorm of 2020 is expected to come to the region this weekend. Winter storm watches have been issued for the entire Chicagoland area from 3 a.m. Saturday to 3 a.m. Sunday, as forecasters are predicting a mix of rain, snow and sleet in many areas.
Officials in Flossmoor have given a preemptive warning to residents and those who drive through town of one specific spot to avoid during the heavy storms.
"Areas expected to be impacted include the viaduct at Flossmoor Road and Sterling Avenue, and other street locations in the village where flooding has been experienced," the village of Flossmoor Public Works Department wrote in an email to residents.

Of course, avoiding the spot is difficult for Flossmoor residents who need to get to the other side of the train tracks. The nearest roads that go through are 183rd Street to the north and Vollmer Road to the south.

Expect barricades and cleaning storm grates to be placed at Flossmoor and Sterling and other places in the village prone to flooding as early as Friday afternoon. Public Works crews will also salt and treat all roadways with liquid de-icer in preparation for the winter storm expected late Saturday night. Parking lots and sidewalks will be treated early Sunday morning, according to Public Works.
"We ask that residents try to limit travel during the event as we anticipate flooding, followed by ice/snow that will make the roadways unsafe at times."
