Halsted Street Businesses Closed Until Wednesday: Homewood Police

Other businesses in Homewood will be allowed to open, police said.

HOMEWOOD, IL — The morning after reports of looting in Chicago and some suburban areas, Homewood police said businesses along Halsted Street will remain closed Monday as a precaution. Monday afternoon, Homewood police officials confirmed these businesses will remain closed throughout the day on Tuesday, not opening until at least Wednesday, June 3 at the earliest.

The closure is "due to looting and vandalism in surrounding communities," police said in a message sent to community members. "There is no immediate danger. These are precautionary measures to ensure the safety of our community members. Other Homewood businesses will be allowed to open."

With businesses shutting down across the Chicago area as protests and even looting over George Floyd's death continued, police on Sunday urged residents in Homewood to stay home.
