HOMEWOOD, IL — Businesses along the Halsted Street corridor in Homewood will remain closed through at least Thursday, June 4 as a result of the recent civil unrest, looting and vandalism reported in nearby communities according to police. As of early Tuesday afternoon, however, no major incidents of vandalism have been reported in the village of Homewood.

"There is no immediate danger," police said in an email to residents, but noted the closures will continue out of an abundance of caution. The Halsted Street stores, which include the likes of WalMart, Menards and Home Depot, have been closed since looting was first reported in the south suburbs on Sunday.

Homewood police also said all on and off ramps at the Halsted Street expressway interchange will close beginning at 2 p.m. Tuesday due to a scheduled protest at Calumet Avenue and I-80 in nearby Hammond, Indiana.
