Village Reminds Residents Of Political Sign Policy Ahead Of Election Day

Signs cannot be placed within 50 feet of an intersection if their size or height are such that they would obstruct the vision of driver.

The Village regards political and/or campaign signs as an expression of free speech. Consequently, Village policy regarding these types of signs is that as long as political signs are placed on private property (with the permission of the property owner), they are unregulated. This means there are no limitations on the number or size of signs. However, signs cannot be placed within 50 feet of an intersection if their size and/or height are such that they would obstruct the vision of drivers. We would like to emphasize that this is purely based on public safety concerns alone.

Remember that the parkway (the area between the street and the property line) is public property and is not a permitted location for campaign and/or political signs. Unfortunately, due to a number of factors, we cannot make individual requests to move signs from parkways. Signs placed in the parkway will be removed by Village personnel.

We would also like to respectfully ask that campaign signs be removed as quickly as possible after Election Day as out-of-date signs create an appearance of clutter.
