Wife Charged With First-Degree Murder After Husband Shot Dead

Rachel James, 43, of Manhattan was taken into custody Tuesday and will appear in bond court on Wednesday, according to Homewood Police.

HOMEWOOD, IL — A Manhattan, Illinois resident has been charged with first-degree murder after her husband was found shot dead in Homewood, the morning of May 8, according to Homewood Police.

On Tuesday, Rachel James, 43, and the wife of Robert James Jr., whose death was determined a homicide, was taken into custody. James will have a bond hearing on Wednesday at the Markham Courthouse — located at 16501 S. Kedzie Ave, Markham.

On May 11, Homewood Police said 48-year-old James Jr. — most recently a resident of Country Club Hills — was found dead in an office building on the 900 block of 175th Street. The discovery came after police were called to tend to a gunshot victim. The Homewood Police Department Criminal Investigations Unit, along with help from the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force said the attack wasn't a coincidence, adding that James was targeted.
