Willow School Field Reseeding On Hold Following 'Off-Roading' Damage

The recent wet weather is holding up the reseeding of the Willow School Field, after an unknown person(s) went 'off-roading' on the field sometime between April 6-8. The incident left about 13,000 square feet of field damaged.

Following damage to the Willow School Park by vandals who went 'off-roading' on the park's field, Homewood-Flossmoor Park District officials are currently at the mercy of the weather, to get the field back in tip-top shape. After a few hundred dollars worth of damage was done to the field, the recent wet weather has put a delay on reseeding the field, said Parks Foreman Mike Wathen.

“There was probably a good $200, $300 worth of damage,” Wathen said. “We're just going to reseed it, once the park dries out. We're just going to take our tractors out there and reseed it.”

About 13,000 square feet of the field was damaged by the incident.

“They were out there doing doughnuts and things like that,” Wathen said.

After the extremely wet weather over the past week, Wathen said that the reseeding efforts were put on hold, so that the field could 'firm up' and handle the work.

“We'll aerate it and fix some of the big grooves and reseed it,” he said.

The damage to the field will have a minor affect on little league baseball games that are scheduled at the field, Wathen said, but he hopes to have the field back to playing conditions by next week.

“We're just waiting for a couple of good days to get out there,” he said. “Hopefully, by next week, it will be ready to go.”

The damage to the field took place some time between April 6 and April 8.
