Comedian, Barry Brewer, to Host the Next Generation of Stand-Up

BET Comedian and Actor To Host Live Taping of Comedy Extravaganza During NBA All Star Weekend

Chicago I’m Home comedian, Barry Brewer, announced today that he will be producing The Next Generation of Standup, a new stand-up comedy show, on February 13, 2020 at the DuSable Museum of African American History, the perfect kick off to NBA All Star Weekend.

The Next Generation of Standup is a new show concept that brings back the nostalgia of urban culture, where comedians can express themselves visually and verbally through the art of comedy. Each episode will be forty minutes long, highlighting three rising comics. The objective behind this show is to bring new and innovative content with a nineties reminiscent twist that bridges the gap between young urban culture, comedy and community.

“I’m excited to introduce to the world the next generation of stand-up comics that I think are very special. I wanted to create a show that brought back the nostalgia of Def Comedy Jam and BET Comic View but with a modern edge to it," says Barry Brewer. “I want to develop a platform where comics who aren’t really recognized in urban communities have a voice on stage on my show.”

Barry Brewer has been featured in a number of stand-up comedy shows featuring Season 3 of Gabriel Iglesias Stand-Up Revolution, Laff Mobb’s Laff Tracks, All Def Comedy, BET’s Comic View, and Bill Bellamy’s Who’s Got Jokes. You can now stream his newest stand-up special Chicago I’m Home on BET+ and on Amazon Prime Video. In addition, Barry is seen as Eric on BET’s newest drama series Games People Play and Matthew Henson on Netflix’s Kevin Hart’s Guide to Black History. He will also play John in Tyler Perry’s upcoming dramedy series titled: “BRUH”.

Barry will produce two new pilot episodes that will be taped live at the DuSable Museum of African American History (located at 740 E. 56th Place Chicago, IL 60637) on February 13th from 7pm-9pm. Featured comics include:
● Bigg Jah
● Ballhead Phillips
● Fatimah Taliah
● Lady Lunchabell
● Mike Samp
● Marvin “Dubs” Phipps

In addition, The Next Generation of Stand-Up will have official NBA Impersonator and celebrity DJ, Brandon “BdotAdot5” Armstrong, as the appointed DJ for the shows.

Part of the proceeds from the Next Generation of Stand-Up will go to the Go for Yours foundation, a 501c3 nonprofit whose mission is to provide the next generation of urban youth with financial assistance, mentorship and resources to make a positive impact in their communities. Money collected will go to send students to the Dream Experience, a one-week leadership development fellowship in Los Angeles, that focuses on entrepreneurship and civic engagement.

Tickets range from $25-$45 and can be purchased on Eventbrite.com.
