  1. Drink lots of fluids: Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water and natural juices. Avoid alcoholic beverages, coffee and sodas.
  2. Close window coverings: If you don’t have air conditioning, keep your shades drawn and blinds closed to keep the sun out. However, leave the windows opened slightly to let in any breeze.
  3. Turn down the lights: Keep electric lights off or turned down. They generate health! Electronics and household appliances do, too. Be sure to minimize the use of your oven and stove, too.
  4. Dress for the heat: Take cool baths and showers to keep your body feeling cool, as well as the inside of your home. Then, when getting dressed, wear loose-fitting, light cotton clothing.
  5. Stay out of parked cars: Don’t leave anyone (including pets) in a parked car, even for a few minutes.
