Hyde Park Bank Robbed On Christmas Eve

The bandit in the Hyde Park bank robbery is also believed to have robbed another bank in the neighborhood just 10 days prior.

CHICAGO – A teller at Hyde Park Bank, 1525 E. 53rd St. was robbed on Christmas Eve, and federal officials believe the bandit is the same man who knocked off the BankFinancial location in the neighborhood just 10 days earlier.

A man gave the teller a note implying he had a weapon at 12:20 p.m. on Monday, according to University of Chicago police. He demanded the teller hand over cash and fled once that occurred.

The FBI describes the incident as a "non-takeover bank robbery"and the suspect as a 5'9" black man in his 30's or 40's weighing 170 to 200 pounds with a dark complexion.

Police have also connected to man to a heist at the BankFinancial branch at 1354 E. 55th St. in Hyde Park on Dec. 14. In that incident, a weapon was also implied but not displayed.
