Longtime Hyde Park Community Leader Dies at 94

​Robert "Bud" Lifton was active in several of the neighborhood's community foundations.

CHICAGO, IL - A man who was active in the Hyde Park neighborhood for decades passed away recently less than one month shy of his 95th birthday.

Robert “Bud” Lifton was active in Hyde Park from the time he moved to the neighborhood during the 1930s to 1991, when he moved to the North Side, according to an obituary in the Hyde Park Herald.

Lifton was a founder of the Kenwood Open House Committee, Harper Court Foundation and a member of the first board of the Hyde Park Federal Savings and Loan Association. He focused on providing loans to people who needed them in that capacity as well as with the South Shore Bank, which is now the ShoreBank Corporation.

A memorial was held at KAM Isaiah Israel in Hyde Park on Monday.
