Neo-Nazi Group Hangs Hitler, Swastika Posters on U of Chicago Campus

The school is working with university police to investigate the matter.

CHICAGO, IL — A neo-Nazi group is claiming responsibility for hanging posters of Adolf Hitler in a field of swastikas on the University of Chicago campus. The posters also include the hate group's name, Atomwaffen Division, as well as the slogans "#Hitler Disapproves" and "No Degeneracy, No Tolerance, Hail Victory."

A photo of one of the posters on campus was posted by one of the group's Twitter accounts Sunday night. That poster had been hung on a glass wall along a walkway in Levi Hall, according to The Chicago Maroon, U of C's independent student newspaper. A student also claimed that posters had been seen at the university's Center for Study of Race, Politics and Culture, and Center for Study of Gender and Sexuality.

The university told The Maroon that two posters had been removed from the campus. A spokesman also told the newspaper that it was investigating the incident with university police.

The Atomwaffen Division has taken credit for hanging similar posters earlier this year on other U.S. college campuses, such as Boston University and Old Dominion University.

Last month, a Jewish studies lecturer at Northwestern University in Evanston reported a passenger in a black SUV asked him if he was Jewish, then gave him a Nazi salute and said "Heil Hitler."
