New Dyett Reveals $14 Million in Improvements

The school welcomes 21st century additions including a new digital media lab, fashion design room, and unisex bathrooms.

Walter H. Dyett High School for the Arts, 555 E. 51st St., welcomed students and faculty members to tour the new changes of the school on Wednesday.

The school recently underwent a $14 million renovation that added 21st century additions to its campus, according to the Hyde Park Herald.

“We are redefining what a neighborhood school looks like,” said Principal Beulah McLoyd in the story.

Updates to the school include a fashion design room, two dance studios, and digital media computer lab where students can practice graphic design, film creation and video game design.

Other improvements were added to the school, such as bright colored walls, unisex bathrooms, new lunch tables in the cafeteria and updates to the gymnasium floor and bleachers.
