University Of Chicago Trauma Center Could Open In May

Construction is complete on the first South Side trauma center to open in many years.

CHICAGO, IL - The first trauma center on the South Side of Chicago more than 25 years has been completed and could be open as early as May. The University of Chicago Trauma Center is touted as the newest and most advanced adult emergency department in Chicago, according to an ABC-7 Chicago report.

Construction of the center is complete, but complete certification by the Illinois Department of Public Health isn't expected to happen until May 1.

"This is a big deal, this is a huge deal," said Derek Douglas, vice president of civic engagement at the University of Chicago. "I think what today reflects is what can be accomplished when the university and the community come together to accomplish common goals."
