Witches, Winds, and Whirls at the UChicago Symphony Orchestra Halloween Concert

Each year the University Symphony Orchestra and and Hyde Park School of Dance come together for a haunted and harmonious Halloween event!

The University of Chicago Symphony Orchestra (USO) and the Hyde Park School of Dance come together for their annual Halloween concerts on Saturday, October 28. There will be two performances, the first at 7 p.m. and the second at 9 p.m., at Mandel Hall (1131 E. 57th Street) on the UChicago campus.

Howling winds and stormy skies form the backdrop for over 100 costumed musicians. The performance will include storytelling and special effects – including a distinctive, thematic entrance by costumed conductor, Barbara Schubert. Dancers from the Hyde Park School of Dance will move to the sounds of the symphony, adding to the evening’s entertainment.

The program will include:
Witches’ Ride from Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel
The Noonday Witch - Antonín Dvořák
The Storm – Tchaikovsky
Salome’s Dance of the Seven Veils – Strauss
Music from Wicked
