The Chalkboard: Will It Sell At This Price?
The owners of The Chalkboard closed their Plainfield Road business in late 2019 after 39 years in Crest Hill.

CREST HILL, IL — For the first time in 40 years, something is missing on Plainfield Road. The Chalkboard, one of the most successful businesses in Crest Hill for decades, is no longer in existence. Last November, Patch reported that the owners of The Chalkboard decided to retire.
This summer, one of the Joliet area's largest commercial real estate companies, Caton Commercial, is trying to sell the 28,000-square-foot building located at 2110 Plainfield Road. The asking price is $1,249,000, according to the commercial real estate website LoopNet. The property is being marketed for additional retail.
"First floor features open floor area for sales/showroom and offices," the listing reads. "Second floor features storage warehouse and offices ... Flexible B3 zoning give opportunity for multiple uses."

It remains to be seen whether The Chalkboard's owners will get nearly $1.25 million for their empty building. On a positive note, the Route 30 corridor between Plainfield and Joliet attracts several thousand motorists per day.
