CREST HILL ? If you ever entertained the idea of becoming the proud owner of the St. Anne's Catholic Church on Crest Hill's Dearborn Street, now is the time to act.

On Tuesday, Joliet Patch's editor interviewed Jim Karges of Joliet's long-standing real estate company, Karges Realty at 208 Larkin Avenue. This week, Karges Realty listed the former St. Anne's church property on the real estate market. The asking price is exactly $500,000.

The property at 1800 Dearborn Street consists of slightly more than 1 acre, according to Jim Karges. The church parking lot included with the property can park about 50 vehicles. Additional features besides the church are the kitchen and banquet facilities.

Karges said the Crest Hill land is currently zoned for residential, and he remains open-minded about the redevelopment possibilities for the former Catholic Church.

He said that a banquet hall is one possibility, and another scenario could be that the building is acquired as a non-denominational church.

"It's in good condition, it has a nice kitchen, the banquet hall is really nice," Karges remarked.

The church can seat about 300 people, and it features a choir loft and a crying room for parents with small children, Karges pointed out.

"The church is in really nice shape," he said.

Karges believes the $500,000 listing price will help the Diocese of Joliet find a buyer in quick fashion.

"I think it's a heckuva good price," he quipped.
