College Credits: Students Celebrate Graduation, Dean's List

Area students are doing amazing things at colleges and universities across the United States.

Even though most college students are out of school for the summer, there are still students from area towns like Homer Glen, Lemont, Lockport and Romeoville celebrating accomplishments including making Dean's List, graduation, summer opportunities and other academic achievements.


UT Student Earns Dean's List Honors

Lindsay Graham, of Homer Glen, earned dean's list honors at The University of Tampa for the Spring 2021 semester. Students must maintain a GPA of 3.75 or higher to be eligible for the dean's list.

Student graduates from CCU following the Spring 2021 semester

Coastal Carolina University recognized nearly 1,200 students during its in-person Spring 2021 commencement ceremonies, held May 7 and May 8, in Brooks Stadium. Among the graduates was Elizabeth Principe, a Management major from Lockport.

Students Graduate from Bradley University

Bradley University congratulates the 1,000-plus students who earned degrees in May. Graduates include: Emie Choquette of Lemont, who graduated with a degree in Psychology, John Deuschle of Lemont, who graduated with a degree in Computer Information Systems, Sean Neumann of Lemont, who graduated with a degree in Health Science, and Saray Patino of Lemont, who graduated with a degree in Biomedical Science.


Lockport Student Inducted into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi

Michele Berling of Lockport, was recently initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation's oldest and most selective all-discipline collegiate honor society. Berling was initiated at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Berling is among approximately 30,000 students, faculty, professional staff and alumni to be initiated into Phi Kappa Phi each year. Membership is by invitation only and requires nomination and approval by a chapter. Only the top 10 percent of seniors and 7.5 percent of juniors are eligible for membership. Graduate students in the top 10 percent of the number of candidates for graduate degrees may also qualify, as do faculty, professional staff and alumni who have achieved scholarly distinction.


Augustana College's spring semester Dean's List

Augustana College announced more than 1,100 students were named to the Dean's List for the 2020-21 spring semester. Students who have earned this academic honor have maintained a grade point average of 3.5 or higher on a four-point scale for courses taken during the term.

Students included: Hassan Abdel-Ghani of Homer Glen, majoring in biology; Giselle Barajas of Romeoville, majoring in multimedia journalism mass communication; Marissa Borkowski of Romeoville, majoring in psychology; Caitlin Campbell of Romeoville, majoring in creative writing; Ethan Chiu of Lockport, majoring in multimedia journalism mass communication; Melaine Diep of Romeoville, majoring in biology; Jennifer Filotto of Romeoville, majoring in communication sciences and disorders; Sara Mazrimas of Lockport, majoring in biology; Kayla Millan of Romeoville, majoring in psychology; Olivia Ruffatto of Lockport, majoring in teaching biology; Colin Stapleton of Lockport, majoring in international business; and Andrew Whetter of Homer Glen, majoring in accounting.
