Gelsosomo's Pizzeria Returning To Downtown Lemont

The pizza restaurant has moved to a new building in downtown Lemont, and will open for carry-out and delivery in July.

LEMONT, IL — Gelsosomo's Pizzeria is set to return to downtown Lemont this summer in a new location. The business, which closed in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic, will first return in a carry-out and delivery format in July, Jen Macari, who runs the restaurant with her parents Ed and Peggy Gricus, told Patch.

Gelsosomo's pizza and some other menu items had been available at its sister restaurant, Digs On Canal, but the two restaurants will separate once more with the opening of Gelsosomo's new building at 113 Stephen St.

"Closing [the former] space was a little heart-breaking," Macari told Patch. Macari and her parents knew that if they could make it through the pandemic, they wanted to reopen Gelsosomo's, she said.

Gelsosomo's will move into the former Old Town Restaurant building, which also closed in 2020.

Macari said Gelsosomo's will start with carry-out and delivery only, while the restaurant works to get everything started.

The restaurant will offer its pizza, pasta and other menu staples, Macari said.

"We miss it, we miss seeing everybody," Macari said. The restaurant would often hold community fundraisers in its old building, and is well-known for its community support around Lemont.

"We were devastated that we weren't able [to hold those events]," Macari said. Even though the business will begin with carry-out and delivery, it may hold some 'Pack the Place' events at the restaurant for different community causes.

Since the new space is smaller than Gelsosomo's old building, Macari said the restaurant is planning to work with other local spaces for private parties with catering from Gelsosomo's.

"The downtown business community has banded together throughout all of this," she said, also praising the Village of Lemont for being so supportive of local businesses.

Macari said the restaurant will most likely begin dine-in eating by the end of the summer.
