Today: Historic Lemont Church Hosts Indoor Nativity Walk

St. Matthew invites the community to view a collection of nativity scenes in the church's brick parsonage during hometown holidays event.

During and after the Village of Lemont's Hometown Holidays Celebration this Saturday, December 1st, from 3-8 pm, St. Matthew Lutheran Church at 305 Lemont Street (across from the Lemont Historical Society) will host an indoor Nativity Scene Walk featuring vintage, contemporary, and antique nativity scenes. Step inside the parsonage (big brick house next to the church) to warm up and walk through the nativity scene collection. Free will donations are appreciated (but not necessary) and will go toward restoring St. Matthew Lutheran Church's historic outdoor nativity figurines (pictured with this article). Those giving a donation in any amount will receive a special gift.

Local artist Rick Homerding of Puckerville Farms in Lemont has been working for months to restore the outdoor nativity figurines. So far, Homerding has restored all six animals but still has 9 human figurines left to restore. The restoration work includes sandblasting each piece to remove the weathered paint, sanding the base, painting, and applying a new finish.
