Lemont High School To Host 'Volley for the Cure'

Donations will be taken by team members at the door. The varsity squad will wear pink jerseys during its match.

Lemont High School’s girls’ volleyball program will host Lincoln-Way West High School in its non-conference finale Monday, Oct. 21, 800 Porter St. The evening will include the “Volley for the Cure” to raise funds to benefit breast cancer research and to increase awareness about breast cancer.

All three levels of head coach Chris Zogata’s program - freshman, sophomore and varsity - will take part in the festivities by collecting pledges based on the number of kills that the varsity team accumulates in its match. Additionally, donations will be taken by team members at the door. The varsity squad will wear pink jerseys during its match.

The freshman and sophomore level matches will be played at 5 p.m., while the varsity match is slated to start at 6 p.m.

Halloween Hoedown: Halloween Hoedown will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, in historic downtown Lemont. Festivities will include trick-or-treating, haywagon rides, children's activities, the Haunted Caboose at Safety Village, food and treats. Line up for the costume parade will begin at 12:30 p.m. at Legion Park, across from the Metra Station. For more information on this event, call the Village Hall at (630) 243-2700.

Friends of the Lemont Public Library Fall Used Book Sale: Friends of the Lemont Public Library’s Fall Book Sale will be held Wednesday through Saturday at the library, 50 E. Wend St. A preview night for members only will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. Book sale hours will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to noon Saturday. The library will be closed from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday and a bargain sale will be held from 1 to 3 p.m., where attendees can purchase a Friends of the Library bag and fill it with books for $2.

Hooowl-A-Ween at Central Bark: Lemont Township will host the Hooowl-A-Ween event from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27, at the Lemont Township Central Park Dog Park, 16300 Alba St. Events will include pet vendors, a costume contest, trick contest, and a socializing opportunity for fur covered and non fur-covered friends. A 50/50 raffle will benefit Lemont Township assisted pet owners with veterinary emergencies and unpayable pet-related costs.
