LEMONT, IL— Lexi Turner's favorite things were sea turtles and the color green.
So as her mother Amy was grieving the day on which Lexi should have graduated high school, she was moved to see the color popping up on her daughter's classmate's caps.
In September 2015, 17-year-old Lexi was struck and killed by a train while walking along tracks. She was wearing headphones at the time, and her death was ruled accidental.

Her peers honored her memory with the green tassels at the May 27 ceremony. Turner was touched by the gesture.
"I'm crying and smiling at the same time right now," said Amy Persak Turner.

Lexi's friends texted and shared photos in which they donned the personalized caps.
"I am so amazed and appreciative of the kids who are thinking of her tonight by wearing that tassel. I'm so incredibly lucky to have that show of respect and love. I'll have that in my memories forever."
"I'm so proud of my Two nephews, Tommy Jachec and Jack Marzo who both went to Lemont High School with her, and her incredible loving and caring friends, who reached this milestone."
