Game set for June 11.

—Submitted by the Lemont Historical Society

LEMONT, IL — Lemont’s Vintage Baseball Team, the Lemont Quarrymen, will open the 2016 season with a 7-team tournament at Mt. Assisi Field, 13860 Main Street in Lemont on Saturday, June 11, beginning at 10 a.m. President Abraham Lincoln will make a special guest appearance, throwing out the first pitch, and even taking the field for a couple of innings.

Spectators, called "Kranks," will see the game of Base Ball as it was played before the Civil War, using authentic 1858 Baseball Rules and equipment. Joining the Quarrymen for the tourney are the DuPage Plowboys, Milwaukee Grays, Munster Centennials, Sun Hill Farm Colonels, Milwaukee Cream City, and the Creston Regulators. Teams will be competing in matches throughout the day, hoping to “tally more aces,” than their opponents. Civil War Re-enactors will be on hand, and music of the era will be provided by the Naperville Riverwalk Pickers.
