LHS Mathletes Place Among Top 10 At 2021 State Finals

The team's top finish in state finals competition came in the Algebra II Written Team competition where a group of students finished ninth.

LEMONT, IL — Lemont placed 26th among all teams at the 2021 Illinois Council of Teachers of Mathematics Division 3AA State Finals, which were contested virtually this spring, the school said in a release.

The team’s top finish in state finals competition came in the Algebra II Written Team competition, where juniors Christopher Sojka, Jacob TerMaat, Molly Thornber, Andrew Tilly, Isabella Wilton and Annette Winterland combined for a ninth-place finish, according to the school.

Sojka was the top individual finisher in state finals competition, placing 39th in Algebra II.

Lemont placed second among all teams in its regional, with both the Algebra I Written Team and Algebra II Written Team squads earning first-place finishes, the school said.

10 competitors posted top five individual finishes in regional competition, the school said. Sojka and TerMaat tied for first in Algebra II; freshmen Nathan Tilly and Casey Treanor tied for first in Algebra I; sophomore Aashka Trivedi was second in Geometry; Thornber and Wilton tied for third in Algebra II; senior Ethan Ragasa was third in Pre-Calculus; sophomore TJ Polen was fourth in Geometry; and Winterland was fifth in Algebra II.
