Meet Your Lemont Neighbor: Rick Homerding, Renaissance Man

This "someone you should know" does it all, from farming to American Bar Car'ing, to restoring Nativity figurines for a local church.

Local Lemont resident Rick Homerding is a man of many interests and talents. Homerding is the owner and operator of Puckerville Farms, located at 13332 Bell Road in Lemont, featuring fresh honey, pumpkin patches, and a Christmas tree farm. He also helps his brother Rodney operate another new Lemont business, the American Bar Car Company, a tractor-pulled trolley with dining table and bench seating that is available to rent for hosting a moving party and crawling around town to different Lemont dining and drinking establishments.

But perhaps his coolest gig of late is restoring the nearly life-sized Nativity figurines that are displayed outside of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 305 Lemont Street in Lemont during the Advent season. Homerding is pictured here with the animal figurines he has already refurbished. He is now moving onto the human figures that are part of the congregation's Nativity set. Homerding says it's a pretty involved process removing the weathered paint, sanding the base, and applying the new finish to each piece, but restoration projects are right up his alley. Homerding is a graduate of Lemont High School and took over Puckerville Farms from his father in 2002. Puckerville Farms opens for the fall season this Saturday, September 15th. Visit the farm to buy your pumpkins, mums, corn stalks, gourds, fall decor and more!
