In Memoriam: Former Lemont Man, Ceco Steel Employee Donald McGuire, 79

McGuire most recently lived in Monroe, Michigan, where he died Monday, Oct. 31.

Donald H. McGuire 79, of Monroe, Michigan died at 1:15 pm Monday at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center. He had been in poor health for two years.

Family and friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Rupp Funeral Home; V.F.W Post 1138 will provide military honors at 5 p.m. Donald will lie instate Friday 10 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church with the Mass of the Resurrection at 11 am. Rev. Louis Lapeyre, associate pastor, will officiate.

Born June 20, 1937 in Washington, DC he was the son of Francis H. and Mary F. (Begler) McGuire. He married Bernadette A. Damyan on May 27, 1961 in Lemont, Illinois. She preceded him in death on July 30, 2010.

Donald served his country in the United States Army from October 16, 1956 to October 14, 1958.

He was employed by Ceco Steel in Lemont, Illinois, and then at North Star Steel in Monroe until retiring in 1994.

He was a 1955 graduate of Sterling High School, Sterling, Illinois, a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and enjoyed bowling and fishing.

Surviving are his sons, Steven (Michelle) McGuire of Monroe, Brian McGuire of Cement City and Sean (Tracie) McGuire of Monroe; brother Joseph (Patricia) McGuire of Seattle, Washington; sister Kathy (Ken) Brombarek of Cumberland, Tennessee; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Donald was preceded in death by his wife Bernadette; sisters Doris Guy and Rita Wooddell and a brother Gerry McGuire.

Memorial may be made to St. Mary Catholic Church.
