Obituary: Dennis Schubert

Dennis R. Schubert, age 68, of Lemont, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 31, 2019.

LEMONT, IL — Dennis R. Schubert, age 68, of Lemont, died Thursday, Oct. 31, 2019. Dennis was born Dec. 2, 1950 in Joliet, the son of Raymond and Dolores Schubert. He attended St. Cyril & Methodius Elementary School and was a graduate of Lemont High School.

Dennis lived his life as a devout Catholic. A parishioner of St. Cyril and Methodius during his youth and after marriage to Sheila, he became a parishioner of St. Patrick; Dennis was always selfless and generous to his faith. A very humble man of God.

Dennis belonged to the Local 74 Bricklayers and Allied Craftsman for many years. During those years, Dennis quickly rose in ranks to foreman. One of his proudest accomplishments was the construction of the Elmhurst Hospital.

Dennis put much pride and concern into his life-long town of Lemont through his efforts as chairman of the Zoning and Planning commission from 2001-2013. Dennis also served the people of Lemont through his many years with the Lemont Jaycees leading as President from 1984-1985.
Dennis shared his love of sports through leadership among the youth of Lemont. Dennis coached the boys and girls basketball for St. Al's/St. Pats School for many years with tremendous success. He not only taught children the game, but also instilled many life lessons through respect, hard work, cooperation, sportsmanship and perfection.

Survived by his wife Sheila. Dennis lost his oldest daughter Kelly (Tom) Mason to cancer. Survived by two daughters Jane (Dan) Scholtes, Colleen Schubert: six grandchildren, Nicole (Jack) Smith, Melissa (Chad) Hamer, Travis, Carmen and Margo Burke , Patrick (Veronica) Schubert, three great grandchildren: Grady and Madeline Hamer, and Destiny Martinez.

Dennis's smile, laughter and fatherly love will be missed, but never forgotten by all who were blessed by knowing him.

Visitation will be held on Monday, Nov. 4 from 3-8 p.m. at Markiewicz Funeral Home, 108 Illinois St., Lemont. Funeral service will be held Tuesday, Nov. 5 at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church, 200 E. Illinois St. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the American Breast Cancer Foundation
and The Wounded Warriors Project.
