Obituary: June Mueggenborg

June (Bowell) Mueggenborg, age 87, of Darien, died on July 29, 2020. She had been diagnosed with ovarian cancer and chose not to undergo treatment after surgery, which eventually led to kidney failure. She enjoyed a full life and died peacefully at her daughter’s home in Lemont. June was born on July 2, 1933 at her home in Holton, Kansas, to Anna (Metzner) and Charles Bowell.

June graduated from Holton High School in 1951 and moved to Illinois to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in Religion from North Central College in 1955. She received her Education certification through Northern Illinois University in 1961 and enjoyed a 30-year teaching career, which included teaching in Waikiki, Hawaii and Paw Paw, Illinois, then substituting in Lemont as she raised her family, and finally teaching GED classes at College of DuPage. She also worked at West Suburban Bank in Darien and at Oak Tree Towers in Downers Grove.

She was an active volunteer and served on the board at the FISH pantry in Downers Grove. June enjoyed expressing her faith, serving others, traveling, playing games and spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by her children, Karin (Tim) Peraino and Rich (Kathleen) Mueggenborg; three grandchildren, Ryan and Rebecca Peraino, and Anne Mueggenborg; and her loving ex-husband, Don Mueggenborg. She was preceded in death by her parents, Anna and Charles Bowell, and her sister, Dorothy (Milt) Eichman.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, Aug. 8, 2020, at Four Corners Community Church, 8251 S. Lemont Road, Darien. Visitation 10 a.m.; Celebration of Life 11 a.m.; masks required.

Memorial donations may be sent to FISH pantry in Downers Grove, Four Corners Community Church in Darien, St. Thomas Hospice in Hinsdale, or the charity of your choice. Arrangements were entrusted to Markiewicz Funeral Home in Lemont.
