Rabid Bat Found in Lemont

Bat was found June 13.

LEMONT, IL — The Cook County Department of Animal Control is warning residents to be especially careful after a bat found in town tested positive for rabies.

The bat was found June 13 in the 700 block of Ridge Rd. Testing by the Illinois State Public Health Laboratory determined that it had contracted rabies.

All residents should keep their dogs, cats and ferrets on a leash when out of their homes. If your animal does not have a current rabies vaccination, have the pet immediately inoculated with rabies vaccine, the department warned in a release Wednesday.
