Registration Now Open for Little Mountain Theatre's Super Hero Camp

Camp will be held June 27 through July 1.

LEMONT, IL — Artful IMPACT! and Little Mountain Community Theatre are once again aligning forces to bring youth, teens, and young adults with special needs Super Hero Camp: Intergalactic Edition. The camp will be held June 27 through July 1 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at The Performing Arts Center of Lemont High School. Cost is $300.

Super Hero Camp, now in its third year, provides youth, teens, and young adults with physical disabilities, cognitive disabilities, and autism the opportunity to experience the hands on magic of being a super hero. This year super hero registrants will be taken to another dimension and time … letting their imaginations soar at warp speed.

Campers will rotate through workshops designed to feature a specific “super power” or “trait” of a super hero. These workshops will be taught by local industry professionals in their field and assisted by high school and college theatre students and adults. No matter what scene the camper is working on, they will always be the hero. The camp will culminate in a final performance and presentation for friends and family. Information, video footage and registration is available at www.artfulimpact.org. For additional assistance please call Artful IMPACT! at 630-717-6622.

This is a one of a kind, unique experience. Absolute fun that will push kids out of their comfort zone all the while meeting new people, experiencing something together and connecting worlds that would never necessarily meet," said Heather Hutchison, Director of Super Hero Camp.

“All of the research on the importance of play, safe risk-taking, and physical activity applies to youth, teens, and young adults with disabilities too. Television and movie production crews, stunt people, students of the performing arts, teaching artists, teens and young adults with disabilities-you’ve created scenes, performed on stage, practiced stunts, performed stage flying, created comic book stories...This camp serves as an opportunity to try out skills –an integration of mobility, social, communication, self-care, responsibility, and adaptive skills," said Sharon Thompson, physical therapist .

“He was free! … It was amazing. … It was the greatest feeling to be able to see that smile on his face," said Shellie Mertes, parent of a super hero camp participant.
