River Valley students honor our Veterans
The entire River Valley community celebrated and honored the service of our Veterans as they were treated to a memorable evening of musical entertainment and artwork. The fourth grade students showcased their talents in a music show, led by music teacher Allyson Zeyen, that honored our local heroes. The children have been working for months to learn songs that were performed with voices, with instruments and with movement and dance - all of which paid homage to those who have served. Over 600 audience members enjoyed the show, along with 40+ Veterans that were thanked and honored for the sacrifices they made on behalf of all of us. The entryway was decorated by students from the River Valley Art Club to welcome all who came to enjoy the evening.
In addition to the festivities for the evening, the River Valley Early Act Club highlighted their most recent fundraising endeavor - for Honor Flight Chicago. This organization recognizes the bravery and patriotism of those that have served by providing a one-day journey to our nation’s Capitol. Lemont families, staff, and students showed their commitment to this worthy cause, which donates over 95% of all funds raised directly to the $1200 cost for each trip. The River Valley students raised a total of $2659 and an extra $1,500 was raised by families that came to the fourth grade tribute. Included in that $1,500 was a donation of $500 from our Lemont VFW, who joined us as our guests at the tribute.
Throughout the building, the week before Veteran’s Day students studied the importance of Veteran’s Day as they participated in lessons that brought about engaging discussions and helped to teach pride and empathy for those that serve.
