Three Lemont Student-Athletes Make College Commitments

The student-athletes include cross country/track and field athlete Nick Kania, basketball player Kyle Kostes and baseball player Evan Ryan.

LEMONT, IL — Three Lemont High School student-athletes have announced their commitments to compete collegiately beginning in the 2021-22 seasons, according to a release from the school. The student-athletes include cross country/track and field athlete Nick Kania (Carthage College), basketball player Kyle Kostes (Carthage College), and baseball player Evan Ryan (College of DuPage).

  • Earned four varsity letters in track and field for head coach Dennis Kennedy and two varsity letters in cross country for head coach Jon DeGuzman
  • Helped Lemont to a runner-up finish at the South Suburban Conference-Blue Division Meet
  • Won both the 800 (2:00.84) and 1600 (4:43.94) meter runs at the SSC Blue Meet, and anchored the victorious 4x400 meter relay squad
  • Set a school record in the 800-meter run (1:58.00) at the IHSA Sectional
  • Established a personal best in the 1600-meter run (4:37.00)
  • Guided Lemont to an SSC title in cross country as a senior in 2020, pacing the squad with a fourth-place finish
  • Was the runner-up in regional competition, helping Lemont to a first-place finish, and also placed 19th to pace the squad in sectional competition
  • Posted a 3-mile personal best of 16:04 in a dual meet as a senior
  • High Honor Roll student
  • Will compete for head coach Josh Henry at Carthage College, an NCAA Division III institution that is located in Kenosha, Wisconsin, and is a member of the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin.

Kyle Kostes

  • Earned three letters and served as a starter for two seasons under head coach Rick Runaas
  • Two-time All-South Suburban Conference performer who averaged 14.3 points per game in his career
  • Also averaged 3.1 assists per game, with an assist-to-turnover ratio of 1.4-to-1
  • Cited as the team MVP after averaging career highs of 18.5 points and 4.7 assists per game as a senior in 2021
  • Team captain who earned all-conference and all-area accolades
  • Led the team in assists (61), steals (29) and free throw percentage (86.0 percent), and was second on the squad in scoring and three-point field goals (25)
  • Also a two-year letterwinner in baseball
  • Played travel basketball for the South Cook Jaguars
  • High Honor Roll student
  • Will play for head coach Steve Djurickovic at Carthage College, an NCAA Division III institution that is located in Kenosha, Wisconsin, and is a member of the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin.

  • Made eight appearances on the mound, including one start
  • Posted a 2-3 record
  • Struck out more than a batter an inning, fanning 15 in 14.1 innings

  • High Honor Roll student
  • Will play for head coach Bobby Wilson at College of DuPage, which is located in Glen Ellyn, and is a member of the North Central Community College Conference.
