6th Annual Mutual Ground Walk for Hope Next Weekend

The event coincides with Domestic Violence Awareness Month to further raise awareness for Mutual Ground's mission.

Next weekend the 6th annual Mutual Ground Walk for Hope event steps off.

Mutual Ground, located in Aurora, helps victims of domestic violence and sexual assault and their families in the Kendall and southern Kane Counties and the Greater Aurora area.

Walk for Hope is one of their two fundraisers, said Marketing and Events Coordinator Wendy Martorano.

“We have it coincide with domestic awareness month, October, to help further raise awareness for what we do,” said Martorano.

Every dollar helps Mutual Ground provide services for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.

The event begins at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19 at the Fabayn Forest Preserve in Geneva.

“It’s the perfect time of year,” said Martorano. She said families are welcome to bring their children and pets (on leash) to walk the 3.1 miles.

This year the Fox River Academy of Music and Art will be at the walk. “They’re going to have a booth and invite walkers to participate in an art project. When the project is done, we’re going to hang it in our lobby,” said Martorano.

There will be other events at the walk as well, including face painting, lunch and more.

The goal this year is to have over 100 teams and about 300 walkers. Last year there were about 200 participants.

So far the event has raised just over $30,000 out of their goal of $75,000/
