MONTGOMERY, IL — Montgomery Village President Matt Brolley is remembering the village's longest-serving board member as someone who "worked tirelessly on behalf of our community." Pete Heinz, who served the Village Montgomery as a trustee for more than 30 years, died Saturday at the age of 82.
Visitation for Heinz is set for 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Dieterle Memorial Home, 1120 S. Broadway in Montgomery. A funeral Mass is at 11 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 620 Fifth St. in Aurora, with burial at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Aurora.

I am very sad to announce the passing of long-time trustee and good friend, Pete Heinz. Pete worked tirelessly on behalf of our community and was always available to listen to village residents and their concerns.
Pete was first elected to the Montgomery Village Board in 1987. At that time trustees were assigned to oversee various departments, and Pete devoted many years to working with and advocating for the Public Works department. Pete was a true public servant and gave freely of his time to boys baseball, Little League and Cub Scouts. He was also active in Big Brothers/Big Sisters. For at least 30 years Pete served on the committee that organized Montgomery Fest and spent countless hours working at the Fest each August. After the new Village Hall was built in 2008, he organized a monthly senior lunch that was very popular and still continues today. Pete’s dedication to Montgomery is reflected in the fact that he was elected to 8 terms as trustee, for a total of 32 years on the village board. His selfless service has had a lasting impact for good in our community.
On behalf of the Village Board and staff, my wife Rosa and I send our sincere condolences to Pete’s family. We mourn with you and will always remember Pete with gratitude for the many ways he helped to make Montgomery a better place.
Village flags have been lowered to half staff and bunting installed on village buildings and will remain so until noon on the day of his funeral.
