Montgomery's Inaugural House Decorating Competition 'Frightening'

If elaborate, spooky yard displays are your thing, look no further. Just don't get eaten by your own house.

MONTGOMERY, IL — If Montgomery's Christmas house decorating competition is any indication, its inaugural Halloween lawn display contest is sure to be fierce. The village's homes and businesses that capture exceptional imagination with their holiday decor this year will get massive bragging rights among neighbors, and a sign on the front lawn. Montgomery's beautification committee, which is sponsoring the scare-tacular event, says themes should be kept "PG-13." The competition will take place Oct. 25. Judges will be looking from the sidewalk, so contestants should make sure their graveyards/shrunken head collection/clown prison is visible from there. Awards will be given to homes based on their entire presentation.

Residents can nominate their own property or someone else's on the village website or by calling the Village of Montgomery Public Works Department at 630-896-9241. On October 25th, committee members and volunteer judges will visit all nominated addresses in order to select the winners. A list of winning addresses will be published with names omitted.

Nominations will be accepted through Oct. 22. A staff member with the village says there are over a dozen addresses submitted so far (as of Tuesday, Oct. 10).
